And so it begins
Inexcusable. That is the main word that comes to mind and the one I have heard the most by fans to describe the Eagles week 2 loss to the Falcons. We had it won, with less than 2 minutes left to go. My only thought at the time was, “don’t F- it up”. I said that to myself about three times until then finally snapped the ball, and f’d it up. And as soon as that happened, the next thing I said to myself was, “the Falcons are gonna go right down the field and score and Hurts is gonna throw a pick before this game is over”. And to a T, that is what happened.
Now, all I have heard the last few days since the game is people trying to focus on blame somewhere specific. Blame Siranni, blame Hurts, blame Saquon, blame the D. There is no one answer, the answer is all the above. I’m all for being aggressive, but sometimes—just run the damn ball and sometimes—just kick the field goal. And Hurts, my guy… throw. The ball. Away. You had a timeout left. It was third down, not fourth. You were down 1 point. Only needed a field goal. Elliot has kicked it 60 plus yards before. All we needed was 15-20 more yards to at least give him a shot at making it. But you gave it away. Inexcusable. Saquon, not gonna blow up about him dropping that pass too much. Things like that happen. Now if it keeps happening, that’s a different story. But I trust he won’t let things like that happened again and he’ll put the work in.
Now the defense. I thought it felt odd to that my initial reaction and feeling to Kelce and Fletcher retiring was that we would notice Fletchers absence more. But that’s already happening. Doesn’t mean I think he would be dominating if he were still playing or anything like that. But like one announcer said on the broadcast, Milton Williams is the oldest player on the D-line outside of Brandon Graham. Milton Williams is 25. These young guys are not playing well and a veteran like Fletch would be beneficial, especially for the tackles. But these young guys need to step it up. It was pathetic how little they could pressure a QB like Kirk Cousins. And as for Vic Fangio, all I can say is I hope he’s as smart as people have said he is, and he can figure something out. Because if not, it’s gonna be a rough season.
We needed this win with a red-hot New Orleans Saints game next in New Orleans. And again, without AJ Brown. Looking at the upcoming games now after 2 games played, my gut feeling is we very well may be 1-3 going into our very early bye week. And if so, it’s gonna be an ugly bye week. Please prove me wrong.
